Start With The Outlet Valve

Four outlet designs exist in this range and they behave differently in use. A T-tap opens with a quarter turn and closes fastest one handed. A twist valve uses a screw action, so it resists being knocked open by bedding or trolley rails, which matters on mobile patients. A push-pull spout gives a tactile confirmation that the outlet is shut. And a bag with no outlet at all removes the emptying step entirely, at the cost of being replaced rather than drained.

Decide Whether You Need Closed System Sampling

If specimens are taken regularly, a bag without a sampling port means breaking the connection every time. The luxury bags and the urine meter range carry a needleless sampling joint with cap, so a specimen can be drawn with a luer syringe while the system stays closed. On an infection control programme this is usually the deciding feature rather than a preference.

Match The Hanging Set To The Beds You Have

This is the specification most often got wrong. A double hook fits a bed frame rail, a rope hanger fits frames with no rail, and a bed sheet clamp attaches where neither works. CZL101 carries all three plus an air vent and a rigid dog house that keeps the outlet valve off the floor. CZL109 carries a rope hanger and a tube pocket instead, which suits mobile patients where tubing management matters more.

Size The Capacity To The Emptying Round

A 2000 ml bag covers a normal overnight collection. On high output patients it will not, and staff end up emptying at night. CZL103 at 4000 ml exists for that case and uses an anti-reflux drip chamber rather than a plain flutter valve, so flow is visible as well as protected.

When To Move Up To A Urine Meter

A bag records cumulative volume. If the decision being made is an hourly one, you need a graduated chamber. The urine meter range covers 200 ml, 400 ml and 500 ml chambers in one, two and three chamber configurations, and injection moulded chambers hold their graduations more precisely than blow moulded ones.
