Glass Steel And Wood In Three Workshops On One Site

A glass dining table is three supply chains pretending to be one product: a tempered top, a welded and plated base, and the packing that has to get both to your warehouse intact. Romance keeps all three inside a single 20,000 square metre plant in Bazhou City, Hebei Province, China, staffed by around 200 production workers.

Glass Workshop

Tempering and hot bending. Flat tops, shelves and curved panels for tables, TV units and display pieces. Hot bent panels are also supplied as components to other furniture manufacturers.

Steel Workshop

Cutting, bending, welding and packing. Chair frames, table bases, bar stool bases and bed frames, finished in powder coat or plating.

Wooden Workshop

MDF and timber components: gloss and painted tops, panels and legs for dining tables, coffee tables and TV units.

Process

From Your Drawing To A Loaded Container

  1. Step 01

    Drawing And Sampling

    Your drawing, photo or sample is turned into a working model on site. Frame geometry, cover, finish and packing are all decided at this stage, before any tooling is committed.

  2. Step 02

    Glass Processing

    Tops, shelves and curved panels are cut, tempered and, where the design needs a curve, heated and formed over a mould in our glass workshop.

  3. Step 03

    Steel Cutting And Bending

    Tube and section are cut to length and bent to the frame profile. This is where a cantilever chair either holds its shape under load or does not.

  4. Step 04

    Welding

    Frames are welded and dressed. Weld quality is the single largest driver of returns in metal seating, which is why it is kept in house rather than bought in.

  5. Step 05

    Finishing

    Powder coating or plating on steel, gloss and paint on MDF. Finish is matched across table bases and chair frames within an order.

  6. Step 06

    Upholstery And Assembly

    Foam, fabric, PU and leather covers are cut, sewn and fitted. Plastic shells, wood legs and hardware are assembled to the frame.

  7. Step 07

    QC Inspection

    Every product is checked by QC before it is packed and loaded.

  8. Step 08

    Packing And Loading

    Five layer carton with foam and PVC bags, then loading at Tianjin.

What The Plant Actually Runs

Capacity questions usually come down to two things: can you hold my range without dropping models, and can you fill my containers on schedule. We currently ship 30 to 40 containers of furniture every month to buyers in 20 countries.

The catalogue runs to 1,557 item codes across dining chairs, dining tables, coffee tables, bar chairs, office chairs, metal beds, hot bent glass and PE rattan furniture. That breadth exists because the workshops are general purpose rather than tuned to a single product line.

Manufacturing Questions

Do you outsource any part of production?+
The core processes are in house: glass tempering and hot bending, steel cutting, bending and welding, wood and MDF components, upholstery and packing. That is what the three workshops on our 20,000 square metre site exist to do.
Can you produce a model from our drawing?+
Yes. We design new products and also build to customer request. Send drawings, photographs or a physical sample and we will confirm what is feasible, what tooling is needed and what it will cost.
How long does a sample take?+
It depends on whether new tooling or a new glass mould is needed. Because design and production are on one site, a frame can be changed and re-covered without shipping parts between vendors, which is usually where sampling time is lost.
What materials do you work in?+
Steel, steel and wood combinations, steel tube with glass, MDF and PE rattan. Tempered and hot bent glass, powder coated and plated steel, gloss and painted MDF, fabric, PU and leather covers and moulded plastic shells.
Can you handle mixed containers?+
Yes. Mixed containers across tables, chairs and coffee tables are routine and are packed to one standard and inspected once.
