OEM or ODM Which Route Suits Your Clothing Brand

The practical difference between having a factory make your design and choosing from theirs, and when each one is the right call.

OEM means you own the design

You send the sketch, design file or reference. We make the pattern, source the fabric, sample it and produce it. The design is yours and the development time and cost sit with your project.

ODM means you choose from ours

Our design team releases new styles weekly for customers to choose from. Development is already done, so the route to a quote and a sample is shorter. The trade off is that the base style is available to other customers unless it was designed exclusively for you.

The middle route most brands actually take

Pick an ODM style and change the fabric, colour, length or trim. You get the speed of an existing pattern with enough difference that the garment reads as your brand.

When exclusivity matters

If a style is going to be the brand's signature piece, ask for exclusive design work. Our design team can work to your brief and keep it off the general release. This is a separate and independent team from the one handling in house designs for other customers.

What is identical either way

Sampling, PP sample, four stage inspection, private label finishing and lead times do not change between the two routes. Only the origin of the design changes.

FAQ

Quick Answers

Can I make an ODM style exclusive to my brand

Ask at the briefing stage. Our design team can design exclusively for a customer rather than releasing the style generally.

Is ODM cheaper than OEM

It usually reaches a quote faster because the pattern already exists. Unit price depends on the fabric, trims and quantity rather than on the route.
