Capacity is the first number a buyer reads and the one most likely to be wrong on a listing. This is how the three capacity tiers in our own catalogue behave in practice, and which product each one belongs on.

5000mAh - the pocket tier

A 5000mAh pack holds roughly one full phone charge plus a partial second, depending on the handset. It is the right tier when size decides the sale. FL-P008 is 5000mAh at 8.6mm and 135g; FL-P009 is 5200mAh in an 85mm block at 110g. Both are aluminium. Neither is the right choice for a two-day trip, and neither should be listed as if it were.

10000mAh - the default tier

This is where most of the catalogue sits, because it covers two to three phone charges without the weight penalty. FL-P002, FL-P005, FL-P006, FL-P007 and FL-P003 are all 10000mAh, as are the magnetic FL-FB031, FL-PB004 and FL-FB042. Weight ranges from 210g to 245g across these models, which is a real difference to a buyer choosing between them.

20000mAh - the travel tier

20000mAh is a two-day reserve for several devices. The trade-off is thickness and recharge time. FL-FB048 is 28mm thick and takes 18W in; FL-PB002 is 32mm and takes 20W. A large pack with a slow input is the classic mistake - it never gets refilled, so it never gets carried.

The number that decides repeat use

Input rating, not capacity. A 20000mAh pack that only accepts 5W input takes most of a night to refill and gets abandoned. Every 20000mAh model in this catalogue takes at least 18W.
