Dimming Protocol Options by Product Type
The adjustable downlight, spot light, and silicone flexible strip light ranges support multiple dimming protocols including Triac, DALI, 0-10V, and PWM. Each protocol is selected based on the fixture's design and intended control system.
Triac is used in retrofit downlights and spot lights where existing dimmer switches are already installed. DALI is standard in commercial and architectural projects requiring centralised control. 0-10V and PWM are used in linear and strip lights where precise analog or digital control is needed.
Triac Dimming for Retrofit Fixtures
Triac dimming is supported on retrofit downlights and spot lights with GU10, MR16, E27, E17, E11, and EZ10 bases. It works with standard household dimmers, allowing direct replacement without rewiring.
This protocol is suitable for residential and small commercial spaces where existing dimming infrastructure is in place. It does not require additional control wiring or a central system.
DALI for Centralised Building Control
DALI is supported on recessed adjustable downlights, wall washers, and surface-mounted COB downlights. It enables individual fixture addressing and integration with building management systems.
This protocol is used in offices, hotels, and public buildings where scene setting, scheduling, and energy monitoring are required. It supports two-way communication and remote diagnostics.
0-10V and PWM for Linear and Strip Lights
0-10V dimming is used on silicone flexible strip lights, including wall washing, underwater, and neon flex strips. It provides smooth, continuous dimming from 0% to 100%.
PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) is used on the same strip lights when digital control is needed. It allows for precise brightness adjustment and is compatible with DMX512 and other digital lighting protocols.
How to Choose the Right Protocol
Select Triac if replacing existing dimmable fixtures with minimal wiring changes. It is cost-effective for residential and small-scale projects.
Choose DALI for new installations in commercial or institutional buildings where advanced control, energy reporting, and scene management are required. Use 0-10V or PWM for linear and strip lights in architectural or decorative applications where smooth dimming or digital control is needed.
