Physical properties
HEC is a white or light yellow fibrous or powdered solid, odorless and non-toxic.
Chemical properties
It is prepared by etherification reaction of alkaline cellulose and ethylene oxide (or chloroethanol), and belongs to non-ionic soluble cellulose ethers.
HEC (hydroxyethyl cellulose) has the following characteristics:
It has good thickening, suspension, dispersion, emulsification, adhesion, film formation, moisture protection and colloid protection. It can be dissolved in cold water to form a transparent viscous solution, and the dissolution is not affected by pH value. It has adsorption, surface activity, moisture retention and salt resistance. These properties make HEC widely used in many fields, such as oil extraction, coatings, construction, medicine and food, textiles, papermaking and polymer polymerization.
