IP67 Versus IP68 For Off-Road And Marine Lighting
The two ratings differ in one thing only, and it is the thing that decides washdown survival.
What the numbers mean
In both ratings the 6 is dust: totally protected against dust ingress. The second digit is water. A 7 means temporary immersion; an 8 means continuous immersion under conditions agreed with the manufacturer. Lantsun lighting is specified at IP65, IP67 and IP68 depending on the model, and the rating is listed in each specification table.
When IP67 is enough
For a light mounted high on a 4x4 or a truck, IP67 covers rain, road spray and the occasional submersion of a water crossing. Most of the work light range sits here.
When to insist on IP68
Pressure washing between shifts, permanent salt spray on a boat, and plant that is hosed down daily all push past what IP67 was tested for. IP68 is one of the four certifications listed for the Lantsun lighting range alongside CE, RoHS and TUV.
The rating is not the whole story
Ingress rating describes the seal, not the lens material or the housing metal. Check the lens material and housing entries in the same specification table - they decide impact and UV survival, which the IP number says nothing about.
