How To Choose LED Work Light Wattage For Your Machine
Wattage bands exist to match a machine and a mounting distance, not to rank quality.
The four bands
The catalogue splits work lights into 10-30W, 30-50W, 50-100W and 100-150W. The bands are the practical dividing lines between a close-range task light, a general machine light and a long-throw light for large plant.
Matching band to mounting distance
A light mounted a metre from the work area does not need the output of one mounted on a harvester roof. Over-specifying wattage on a close mount produces glare and heat rather than useful light, and draws current the machine may not have spare.
Spot or flood
Beam pattern changes the answer more than wattage does. A flood optic spreads a lower wattage across a wide working area; a spot optic concentrates the same wattage down a narrow throw. Several housings in the range are offered with both optics.
Voltage and duty cycle
Specification tables state the operating voltage - commonly DC12V, with 24V options in the range for trucks and plant. For continuous duty, check the operating voltage and the waterproof rating together rather than wattage alone.
