What the catalogue actually uses
Across the specification tables the recurring materials are ABS, aluminium alloy, steel and stainless steel. Trim, covers, storage boxes and light housings are typically ABS or aluminium alloy; bumpers, brackets and tow hooks are steel or stainless.
ABS: trim, covers and storage
ABS moulds to complex shapes cheaply and does not corrode, which is why interior trim, vent covers and storage boxes use it. It is not a structural choice - it is a fit and finish choice.
Aluminium alloy: weight and heat
Aluminium alloy appears where weight matters or where heat has to leave the part - light housings, handles, roof brackets and pedal sets. It also anodises, which is where the coloured variants in the Bronco and Wrangler ranges come from.
Steel and stainless: load paths
Anything that takes a load - bumpers, drag hooks, tow bar hooks, roll bar mounts - is steel or stainless in the catalogue. Where a part exists in both a steel and an alloy version, the steel one is the recovery-rated one.
