Does the hair get crushed when it retracts?
No. The dome is set to the travel length of the body, so it retracts without the hair being folded against the inside of the tube.

Is this brush the same size as the standard kabuki 50008?
No. A retractable body carries a shorter dome than a fixed kabuki. Ask for measured samples of both if the dome height matters to your kit.
