Specifying artificial greenery for hotels, restaurants & resorts

How to choose faux trees that hold up in low light, high traffic and to fire code — while staying on-brand every day of the year.

Greenery is one of the fastest ways to make a hospitality space feel warm, considered and alive. But hotels, restaurants and resorts also demand a look that holds up every day, in every season, often in low light. Here's how to specify artificial trees that perform.

Start with the space, not the plant

Match the tree to the architecture. Double-height lobbies and atriums call for statement palms or tall ficus that fill vertical space. Restaurants and lounges suit lemon, olive and camellia for warmth and a sense of place. Corridors and guest rooms want compact, sculptural forms that won't intrude.

Design for the conditions

  • Low light: artificial keeps full colour where living foliage would thin
  • High traffic: choose weighted bases and durable, dust-tolerant foliage
  • Fire code: specify fire-retardant materials for public interiors
  • Covered outdoor: use UV-stable foliage for patios and porte-cochères

Consistency is the whole point

A hotel's greenery is part of its brand. Artificial trees deliver an identical look across every property and every day of the year — no seasonal die-back, no gaps while a plant recovers, no surprise before a big event. For multi-site groups, a factory can colour-match and build to a single specification so every location is on-brand.

Plan the maintenance reality

Living schemes in hospitality need a recurring maintenance contract; artificial needs an occasional dust. For operators, that's a predictable line item replaced by almost none — and staff time redirected from plant care to guests.

For project buyers: send your moodboard, ceiling heights and any fire-code requirements with your enquiry. A good factory will translate that into a spec, a sample and a quotation — usually within a business day.
