High voltage DC switching for electric vehicles and charging stations
Switching high voltage DC is the hard part of an electric vehicle or a charging post. A DC arc has no natural current zero to help it extinguish, so the contact system has to do the work. The sealed relays in this range use a ceramic contact enclosure filled with inert gas and permanent magnet arc extinguishing, and they are rated for load voltages up to 750VDC.
What Makes This Application Hard
- A DC arc that will not clear damages contacts and can weld them closed
- Vibration and shock on a vehicle loosen or false trip a conventional relay
- Space around a battery pack or in a charging post is tight
- Coil power drawn continuously is a load on the same battery being protected
How These Components Answer It
- Contacts sealed in a ceramic enclosure with inert gas and permanent magnet arc extinguishing
- Explosion proof construction and resistance to magnetic disturbance
- Compact bodies rated from 50A up to 350A
- PWM coil control so holding power stays low after pull in

FAQ
EV and Charging Infrastructure Questions
Which relays suit an EV charging application
The AER6V range covers 50A to 350A with load voltages up to 750VDC and coil voltages of 12VDC or 24VDC. Pick by continuous current first and then check the electrical life figure on the product page against your switching cycle count.
What is the difference between the Y and YF versions
Both versions appear in the range with the same current ratings. The individual product pages list the contact arrangement for each model including the auxiliary contact where one is fitted.
Can the relays be customised
The product pages for this range state that customised design is accepted. Send the parameters you need by email and we will confirm what is possible.
