VDE 1000 V Insulated Screwdrivers: What the Rating Covers

Several screwdriver families in this range are built as VDE 1000 V insulated drivers. The insulation is a construction decision that runs through the whole tool, not a coating applied at the end.

What is insulated

The blade is sleeved up to the tip, and the handle is a two-part moulding in contrasting colours. The contrasting inner layer is the point: when the outer layer is cut or abraded, the colour underneath shows and the tool is taken out of service.

The blade sizes are different

Insulated blades run a narrower range than standard drivers. HY-B342 covers 0.6 x 3.0 x 75 mm to 1.2 x 6.5 x 150 mm slotted, and PH x 75 to PH x 150. HY-B447 runs longer, from 5.0 x 75 mm to 8.0 x 300 mm.

Sets usually include a mains tester

HY-B344 is a 3 pcs set with a 120-250 V mains tester. HY-B444 is a 7 pcs set with the same tester. HY-B372, HY-B374 and HY-B375 all include one. HY-B591 is a standalone mains tester series.

Kits build out from the handle

HY-B445 is a 10 pcs tool set adding long-nose and diagonal pliers, PVC electrical tape and two precision drivers. HY-B446 is a 24 pcs set adding a knife, an adjustable wrench and 24 bits.

On certification

Ask for the specific certificate scope you need before placing an order. The catalogue states that materials are PAH free and meet RoHS; electrical certification for a destination market is a separate question and should be confirmed in writing.
