How to Choose a Used Dump Truck for Mining and Construction
Drive form engine torque axle rating and cargo box thickness decide whether a tipper survives a quarry. Here is how to read a specification before you buy.
Start With the Ground Not the Badge
The first question is not which brand but what the truck drives on. A 6x4 tri axle drive with ten tyres gives traction and stability on unpaved surfaces such as mines and construction sites. An 8x4 adds a second steering axle and twelve wheels which spreads the load and raises payload on firmer ground. Choosing the wrong one shows up as bogged trucks or cracked frames within months.
Torque Matters More Than Horsepower
A loaded climb is won on torque not peak power. Read the Cargo Box Like a Structural Drawing
On the HOWO 371HP 6x4 and 8x4 dump trucks the body uses high strength steel plate with a floor thickness up to 10 millimetres and side plates of 8 millimetres. Cargo box volume runs from around 19.3 cubic metres up to 35 cubic metres depending on configuration. Thin floor plate is the most common reason a cheap tipper deforms in its first season on rock.
Check the Gearbox and Rear Axle Pairing
