How to Compare BYD Range and Battery Figures Before Importing
Two numbers on the same listing usually mean two different versions or two different drivetrains. Read them correctly.
Read the Test Cycle First
The range figures BYD publishes for these models are CLTC figures from the China light duty vehicle test cycle. Comparing a CLTC number against a figure from another test cycle tells you nothing useful. Compare like with like and treat all of them as laboratory numbers rather than promises.
Two Numbers Usually Means Two Versions
The Seagull is listed at 305 and 405 kilometres. Those are different versions of the same car with different battery capacities of 30.08 and 38.88 kilowatt hours. The Dolphin is listed at 302 405 and 401 kilometres for the same reason. One listing can cover a whole version range.
Small Numbers Next to Big Numbers Means Plug in Hybrid
When a listing shows figures such as 55 and 120 alongside 420 and 510 as on the Qin PLUS the small numbers are electric only range on the plug in hybrid version and the large numbers are the pure electric version. Confirm which drivetrain you are buying before you price it.
Battery Chemistry Decides Service Life
The Seagull uses a lithium iron phosphate battery. Chemistry affects cycle life charging behaviour and cold weather performance more than the model name does so it belongs on your comparison sheet next to range.
Charging Time Shapes Fleet Scheduling
The Seagull lists a fast battery charge time of 0.5 hours. For a fleet that number decides how many vehicles you need to cover a duty cycle which often matters more than the last fifty kilometres of range.
